Vaccinations - Help or Harm? |
When it comes to vaccinations, America rates one of the highest in the world - almost 90 percent of American children are ‘fully vaccinated’. The mass immunization of babies has been accepted without question by the vast majority of the American public as a ‘normal’ part of child-rearing since the 1940’s. But in recent years questions have been raised as to the safety and efficacy of vaccinations. Literally thousands of serious vaccine reactions are reported by doctors and parents each year, including hundreds of deaths and permanent disabilities, such as brain damage and autism. Are Vaccines Safe? The current vaccination schedule for an American baby stands at more than 20 shots of various vaccines administered at recommended intervals, starting when the newborn is still in the hospital. More vaccines are being added to the schedule all the time, with many more awaiting FDA approval. In one study, parents were asked to specifically observe any changes in their child’s behavior or physical condition after a vaccination. Only seven percent reported no reactions at all. From this we can deduce that 93% of the time, children have some kind of undesirable reaction to a shot. Vaccines Are Big BusinessVaccines are touted by the medical community and the drug companies who manufacture them, as a fail-safe way to protect children from ‘harmful diseases.’ However, it is a little known fact that the government has set up a fund - paid for by taxpayers - to compensate families whose children have been damaged or killed by vaccinations. This was done to ‘protect’ the drug companies from being sued, and ensure that the vaccine status quo remains in place. Are Vaccinations Mandatory? While the majority of states now have mandatory child vaccinations, it is a grossly under-promoted fact that each state provides for at least one type of exemption, sometimes more, allowing parents to choose not to have their child vaccinated. It merely requires filing some paperwork to say that you object to having your child vaccinated. Some states allow for philosophical exemptions, most will allow for an exemption on medical grounds (very difficult to get) and a few, such as Florida, have a Religious Beliefs exemption. Natural AlternativesIt has been well-known for centuries that foods rich in vitamin C can help ward off or alleviate sickness, and vitamin A is known to help in the prevention and treatment of measles. And most health experts agree that the best thing you can do for your child’s immune system is to breastfeed for at least the first three months of life. Vegetables are full of vitamins. Make sure your children eat vegetables daily. If that is difficult for you, there are several excellent products you can give them that taste very good. One that I especially like for children -- and adults too -- is GREENS FIRST. For more about vitamins and minerals see the Nutrient Charts on my web site. Eating fresh, organic, whole, unprocessed foods -- which you will hear me say many times -- is the best possible way to protect your family’s health. Food of the month:
Sesame Seeds! |
Sesame butter, or tahini, is absolutely delicious and can be used in many recipes. It is like peanut butter only more runny, so keep it in the ‘fridge. To make a sweet dip to use with celery sticks, apples, jicama and carrots take two tablespoons of tahini and one tablespoon of fresh orange juice and beat in a bowl until pale and creamy. Kids love it. |
